Laboratory testing according to ISO 6741 determines the oven-dry mass by heating sample skeins until consecutive weighings show constant mass. The commercial allowance rate for linen line yarn sits at twelve percent, whereas raw scutched flax fiber uses twelve percent and boiled yarn uses thirteen percent. Applying the official rate to the dry weight yields the official commercial mass used on commercial invoices.

For instance, a lot testing at an oven-dry mass of one thousand kilograms under a twelve percent rate produces a trade invoice mass of eleven hundred and twenty kilograms. Actual physical moisture at shipment may vary due to ambient storage humidity without altering the contracted invoice weight. Contract disputes arise when moisture samples are taken after packaging seals have been compromised during transit.

Settlement Calculation

Official testing certificates state both the tested dry mass and the calculated invoice weight for customs clearance. Commercial allowance standardizes monetary transactions across international shipping routes regardless of climate variations encountered during sea transit.
