Sizing Analysis
Monitoring procedures during warp preparation measure the amount of protective sizing agent applied to the yarns as they exit the drying chamber. Measuring the warp sizing takeoff determines the dry polymer add-on percentage remaining on the yarn after drying. This coating protects the delicate warp threads from the high abrasive forces encountered during high-speed weaving.
Takeoff Control
The add-on is calculated by weighing a sample of the warp yarn before and after the sizing process, or by using online sensors that measure wet pickup. To control the warp sizing takeoff, operators adjust the pressure of the squeeze rollers in the size vat. These roller adjustments ensure that the sizing solution penetrates the yarn core to coat the internal fibers.
Proper moisture control in the drying section is also necessary to set the sizing agent correctly.
Weaving Influence
Maintaining the correct takeoff level is essential for ensuring high efficiency in the weaving shed, as it minimizes warp breaks and loom downtime. When warp sizing takeoff is too low, the yarn suffers from friction damage caused by the reed and heddles, which leads to frequent loom stops. Conversely, excessive pickup creates stiff yarn that breaks under tension and sheds large amounts of sizing dust, which can clog the loom’s mechanical parts.
Consistent sizing control therefore directly improves fabric quality and extends the lifespan of the weaving elements. For this reason, mills perform regular audits of size concentration and roller pressure to maintain the desired add-on levels.
