Commercial Calculation
Commercial procurement rules define the systematic subtraction of the weight of plastic bobbin cores and packaging materials from the total weight of shipped roving. This adjustment, known as the roving tare deduction, ensures that the spinning mill pays only for the actual weight of the flax fiber received. The deduction is calculated using a standard weight allowance per bobbin established by trade associations.
This procedure prevents disputes between the spinner and the yarn seller over invoice values. It protects the buyer from paying premium linen prices for low-value plastic carriers that are returned to the supplier or recycled.
Industrial Procedure
Warehouse operators weigh a random sample of bobbins from each shipment to verify the standard tare weight. Under the roving tare deduction, the total recorded weight of the shipment is reduced by the calculated weight of the empty plastic bobbins and the wooden crates. This process is recorded on the receiving docket.
Accounting Resolution
Mill accountants use the net weight resulting from this calculation to authorize the payment of the supplier’s invoice. This practice avoids the inflation of raw material costs by excluding non-textile components from the transaction. The correction maintains the accuracy of the mill’s material yield calculations.
