Standardized Methodology
The national standard of the People’s Republic of China governs the determination of moisture content and moisture regain in textile materials by the oven-drying method. Compliance with GB/T 9995 is required for commercial transactions of flax fibers and linen yarns within the domestic market. The specification establishes the uniform testing environment, specimen preparation steps, and dry-weight calculations used to resolve bulk shipping weights.
Laboratory technicians execute these drying tests at specified temperatures to ensure that moisture calculations remain consistent across all domestic processing plants.
Testing Procedure
Precision weighing before and after the drying cycle ensures the accuracy of the moisture percentage calculation. Under the protocols of GB/T 9995, raw flax samples are heated to one hundred and five degrees Celsius until they reach a constant mass. The difference between the initial wet mass and the final oven-dry mass defines the moisture content of the textile lot.
Automated drying ovens equipped with integrated balances allow continuous tracking without removing the samples from the heat chamber, reducing measurement errors.
Commercial Application
Commercial settlement weights are adjusted according to the standardized moisture regain percentages defined by this regulation. The testing process prevents disputes between spinning mills and raw fiber suppliers regarding water-weight variation.
