Separation Zone
Positioned between the main drying cylinders and the headstock take-up beam, a specialized splitting region releases bonded warp yarns. Mill technicians monitor the dry split section to ensure that dried starches and binders separating adjacent flax strands shear cleanly without abrading natural bast fibres. This machine zone consists of layered lease rods that divide consolidated yarn webs into individual warp ends prior to loom insertion.
Chemical sizing agents create brittle bridges during cylinder drying that require controlled physical division. Processing stops at the entrance of the front comb where separated ends undergo final width alignment.
Yarn Delamination
Delamination forces inside this drying zone vary according to film thickness and yarn moisture content. In linen processing, the dry split section subjects stiffened flax strands to progressive vertical shear angles across successive lease rods. Mechanical resistance drops as starch bonds yield along the sheet line.
High tension creates fibre fluffs.
Quality Control
Uncontrolled yarn breakage within splitting zones generates fabric defects and loom downtime. Moisture content below four percent makes flax fibres brittle during mechanical splitting. Higher humidity preserves fibre elongation.
Machine speeds affect split points. Static electricity accumulates when ambient humidity drops below fifty percent. Excessive sizing concentration increases required splitting force, leading to filament breakage across the warp band.
