Sizing Chemistry
Protective chemical bath application for premium yarn sheets utilizes low-viscosity starches and synthetic binders to create a uniform, smooth outer shell. Mill operators utilize combed cotton sizing to preserve the natural lustre and uniform structure of long-staple cotton yarns. Because combed yarns have fewer protruding fibre ends, the volume of size paste required to achieve optimal weaving efficiency is significantly lower than that needed for carded yarns.
The sizing solution primarily aims to increase yarn strength and abrasion resistance without reducing its inherent flexibility.
Viscosity Control
Temperature control of the size mix in the sow box is critical for ensuring uniform penetration and coating thickness. When combed cotton sizing is performed at high speeds, a precise solids concentration prevents the yarn from absorbing excessive moisture. An over-sized yarn becomes brittle and loses the elasticity needed to withstand the high-frequency tension peaks of the loom.
By monitoring the squeeze roll pressure, the mill maintains the dry pick-up rate within a strict three to five percent margin. This precise control ensures that the combed yarns retain their supple quality.
Process Flow
Drying the treated warp sheet is the final step in this preparatory phase. Steam-heated cylinders must dry the yarn sheet gradually to prevent the size film from cracking or peeling.
