Mass Accountability
Linen yarn transactions require a structured calculation to ensure that the physical weight delivered corresponds to the commercial dry weight plus allowed moisture regain. The process of yarn mass reconciliation compares the actual shipped mass with the calculated invoice mass. This step sits in the billing verification stage and is recorded in the final transaction reconciliation sheet.
Moisture Balancing
When yarn packages are received at the weaving mill, they are weighed to establish the gross intake weight. Since this intake weight depends on the relative humidity of the shipping containers, yarn mass reconciliation corrects the weight using laboratory moisture test values. Technicians extract sample bobbins, test their moisture regain, and use this percentage to calculate the oven-dry mass of the entire shipment.
This dry mass is then increased by the standard moisture allowance to find the commercial weight. This calculation ensures that the buyer only pays for actual fiber rather than accumulated water.
Audit Trail
Conducting a yarn mass reconciliation prevents financial losses due to water absorption during ocean transit. The reconciliation figures are signed by the quality inspector and attached to the invoice. This formal record provides a clear audit trail for the company’s accounting department.
