Auxiliary Component
Series of secondary air jets positioned along the reed of an air-jet loom maintain the momentum of the weft yarn during its passage across the machine. This hardware configuration is the sub-nozzle. These devices work in a synchronized sequence to keep the yarn moving after the initial push from the main nozzle.
They prevent the flax thread from drooping or losing speed as it travels through the air.
Relay Sequence
Each sub-nozzle fires in a rapid chain that follows the tip of the yarn across the width of the machine. This relay action creates a continuous stream of air that supports the yarn over long distances, which is particularly useful for wide-width linen fabrics. The angle and timing of each jet are programmed into the loom controller to match the specific weaving speed.
Because they consume a significant portion of the mill’s compressed air, these nozzles are designed for high energy efficiency.
Fabric Width
Effective use of these components allows for the production of much wider cloth than would be possible with a single propulsion point. On narrow looms, fewer jets are required, but for wide sheeting fabrics, the sub-nozzle array is the only way to ensure the weft reaches the far selvedge. Failure of a single jet in the sequence can lead to incomplete pick insertion and machine stoppage.
