Size Configuration
Sizing bath parameters govern the concentration of starch and polyvinyl alcohol applied to flax yarns during warp preparation in Chinese textile mills. Starch viscosity and solids percentage determine the mechanical strength added to the yarn before loom insertion. Temperature controllers maintain liquid conditions inside the stainless steel trough to prevent premature gelatinization.
Starch pickup percentages vary between eight and twelve parts per hundred by dry weight of flax depending on yarn count. Operators record actual liquor uptake and drying cylinder surface temperatures on the production log sheet for each finished warp beam.
Mechanical Tension
Wet and dry stretch profiles dictate how much elongation the sized flax warp tolerates before fiber breakage occurs. Tension load cells mounted between the squeeze rollers and the drying section measure linear force in newtons per tex. Low drafting rates prevent structural damage to the natural cellulose matrix while high windup pressure compacts the yarn diameter.
Mill technicians adjust load settings whenever yarn count changes from fine wet-spun yarns to coarser dry-spun counterparts.
Viscosity Control
Fluid dynamics inside the circulation pump dictate the shear stability of the sizing liquor during continuous mill operation. Rotational viscometers measure centipoise ratings at specific operational temperatures to verify that enzymatic breakdown remains within acceptable limits. Buyer acceptance criteria require specific breaking length retention figures after sizing while internal mill standards target maximum production speed without shedding.
Starch retrogradation alters yarn stiffness over time if bath temperature drops below the required threshold during factory shift changes.
