Material Waste
Wastage of prepared fiber occurs when roving breaks or is discarded during the drafting and spinning phases. Spinning supervisors monitor roving loss to assess the efficiency of the preparation area and the quality of the incoming flax roving. This waste represents a loss of value, as the fiber has already been cleaned, carded, and drafted into a coherent strand.
Cause Identification
Breakages on the wet spinning frame are the main source of fiber waste at this stage. High rates of roving loss usually point to insufficient softening of the pectins in the hot water basin or incorrect drafting tension. The daily waste log tracks the mass of discarded roving alongside the machine number to isolate mechanical faults or uneven fiber batches.
Correcting the speed of the feed rollers and adjusting the water temperature helps to minimize these breaks. Furthermore, proper yarn lubrication before drafting strengthens the roving strand and reduces friction-induced breakages.
Yield Correction
Reduction of process waste improves the overall conversion efficiency of the spinning mill. When roving loss exceeded three percent, the mill quality team must audit the roving frame settings and check the fiber lubrication levels. The resulting report dictates whether the spinning parameters or the raw material batch must be changed to restore standard efficiency.
