Testing Protocol
Standardized tensile evaluation determines the force and elongation characteristics of single strands of textile yarns. Adhering to ISO 2062 tensile testing provides linen mills with a uniform methodology to measure the breaking force of wet-spun flax threads. The procedure utilizes a constant rate of extension machine to pull a sample until it ruptures.
This method employs a gauge length of either two hundred and fifty or five hundred millimeters depending on the material type. Technicians secure the linen strand in pneumatic clamps to prevent slippage during the elongation process. The test occurs in a conditioned environment where temperature and humidity remain tightly controlled to eliminate moisture-related variance.
Tension Analysis
Measurement of resistance occurs as the tensile tester applies a continuous downward force on the specimen. During ISO 2062 tensile testing, the instrument records the precise load at which the specimen fractures. This peak load is measured in centinewtons and represents the yarn’s maximum carrying capacity.
The corresponding elongation at break is recorded as a percentage of the original specimen length.
Quality Benchmark
Acceptance limits defined by purchasers dictate whether a batch meets the tensile requirements. Flax yarns subjected to ISO 2062 tensile testing must demonstrate high consistency to be approved for high-speed loom operation. This metric is documented in the final mill test certificate.
