Functional Control
Yarn guides in winding machinery use hard surface geometry to regulate tension during winding. A ceramic tension disc applies a controlled frictional resistance to the moving linen yarn, which stabilizes the yarn package construction. In Chinese spinning mills, yarn tension during the winding of flax yarn must remain within a narrow tolerance to prevent breaks.
This component sits on the tension assembly of the winding machine to maintain constant yarn drag.
Friction Mechanism
Mechanical contact between the yarn and the flat surfaces of the assembly governs the drag force. When the yarn runs between two discs, the weight or spring pressure on the top ceramic tension disc determines the resistance. Rough flax fibers can cause rapid wear on softer metal components, making sintered alumina or zirconia necessary.
Hardness prevents groove formation, which would otherwise snare the slubs or thick spots inherent in linen yarns. Consistent resistance across the winding run ensures uniform density in the finished yarn package, which is necessary for subsequent dyeing.
Quality Output
Mill inspectors check the physical condition of the hardware at scheduled intervals to prevent yarn damage. Surface imperfections on a worn ceramic tension disc cause hairiness. Replacing worn parts maintains yarn quality.
