Finishing Specification
Industrial finishing parameters adjust the physical structure of cellulosic yarns to enhance luster and dye absorption. Operators apply a caustic mercerization offset to compensate for the shrinkage and structural changes that occur when linen yarns are treated with concentrated sodium hydroxide under tension. This value represents the difference between the untreated yarn diameter and the final processed dimensions.
Accurate calculation of this factor prevents the over-tensioning of yarn packages during the continuous mercerization cycle.
Tensile Management
Mechanical settings on the finishing range are calibrated to prevent yarn breakage while maintaining the required elongation. If the caustic mercerization offset is set too low, the yarn fails to achieve the desired luster, whereas an excessive setting results in loss of yarn elasticity. Technicians monitor tension loads in real time to ensure uniform treatment.
Chemical Monitoring
Concentration limits of the caustic bath must be held within narrow tolerances to ensure consistent yarn properties. To maintain the necessary caustic mercerization offset, the density of the sodium hydroxide solution is continuously measured and adjusted using automatic dosing pumps. This chemical control is combined with controlled rinsing cycles to remove residual alkali before the yarn proceeds to the dyeing stage, which stabilizes the final physical dimensions.
Without this strict concentration control, the fabric exhibits uneven dye absorption and inconsistent strength across the woven width.
