Safety Guard
An automatic electrical detection system runs above the loom warp sheet to halt the weaving process instantly if a longitudinal thread breaks. The warp stop overhead assembly consists of drop wires suspended from each warp thread of the linen loom. This configuration is recorded on the loom’s mechanical specification sheet.
The mill’s own standard requires the loom to stop within a single pick of a thread failure, preventing the weaving of defective linen that would fail the buyer’s structural acceptance criteria. By stopping the machine before the next row is woven, the system prevents the defect from being buried under subsequent yarns.
Weaving Loom
Immediate machine arrest prevents the creation of long-running fabric defects that require extensive manual mending. When a flax yarn breaks, the metal drop wire falls onto an electrode bar, completing a circuit that shuts down the motor drive. The weaver then ties the broken warp ends together using a knot that will not show in the finished fabric.
This incident is tracked by the loom’s automatic counting system.
Quality Metric
Reducing the occurrence of missed picks improves the overall yield of first-grade fabric from the weave room. The number of stops per hundred thousand picks is analyzed weekly to evaluate the quality of the flax yarn. Low-grade yarn causes frequent stops, which reduces weaving efficiency and is recorded in the mill’s daily production analysis.
This metric is used to adjust yarn purchasing decisions.
