Device Alignment
The precise adjustment of mechanical or electronic tensioning devices ensures that yarn runs under a uniform load during winding, warping, and weaving. This procedure, known as tension calibration, is critical in linen processing because flax yarn lacks elasticity and breaks easily when overloaded. Consistent tension prevents the formation of uneven packages and minimizes yarn damage.
Technicians perform this task using specialized tension meters that measure the force exerted on the yarn as it travels through the guide elements.
Adjustment Protocol
Execution of the calibration involves setting each tension disc or electronic brake to a specified resistance value that matches the yarn count and speed. If the tension is too high, the flax fibers will stretch and lose their remaining elasticity, which increases the rate of breaks during subsequent steps. Conversely, loose tension causes poor package formation and tangles during unwinding.
Automated systems use sensors to continuously monitor the yarn tension and make real-time micro-adjustments during winding. These systems must still be verified regularly against a hand-held master meter to maintain accuracy across the entire spinning mill.
Quality Protection
Proper tension settings are recorded on the machine setup sheet for each yarn quality and lot number. Adherence to these calibrated values protects the yarn from mechanical fatigue and ensures that the finished fabric does not have tight or loose bands. Regular audits of the tensioning systems are a key part of the mill’s preventative maintenance plan.
