Nip Loading
Operational parameter regulates the force applied to the yarn as it passes between the immersion roll and the squeeze roll in a sizing machine. Pneumatic or hydraulic systems exert downward pressure to remove excess liquid and force the sizing agent into the flax fibers to ensure the bond is permanent. Adjusting the slasher squeeze roll pressure allows the operator to control the percentage of size pickup and the moisture content of the wet yarn.
This setting is the primary tool for achieving a consistent dry size add on across different production runs.
Slasher Adjustment
High pressure levels ensure that the size is not just a surface coating but a binder that secures the protruding fibers. If the slasher squeeze roll pressure is too low, the yarn carries too much liquid into the drying cylinders and slows down the production speed. Conversely, excessive force can flatten the yarn or damage the delicate structure of the flax.
Operational Stability
Sensors in the machine monitor the load in real time to compensate for changes in yarn density or machine speed. Maintaining the slasher squeeze roll pressure within a narrow range prevents the formation of size spots or lean areas that would fail during the high stress of air jet weaving. This precision allows mills to maximize their output while keeping waste to a minimum.
Consistency in the squeeze nip ensures that every meter of the warp beam behaves identically on the loom.
