Chemical Dissolution
Solvent application during the post-weaving finishing stage removes applied sizing agents from grey linen fabric to allow for final dyeing and aesthetic treatment. The sizing wax removal procedure targets the temporary protective coating added to flax yarns before they enter the loom to prevent breakage. This phase occurs after the inspection of raw fabric rolls and before the bleaching baths that prepare the surface for patterns.
Technicians measure the success of this task by testing the absorbency of the textile against the mill internal standards for moisture uptake. Fabric that retains residues fails the acceptance criteria set by the export house.
Solvent Mechanism
Specialized machinery cycles the woven cloth through a heated surfactant solution that emulsifies the hydrocarbon deposits left by the loom. The apparatus heats the fluid to a set temperature where the solid mass liquefies and detaches from the individual fibres. High pressure pumps then rinse the loosened impurities away while fresh liquor enters the system to maintain a constant concentration.
Gravity settling tanks collect the heavy particles that fall from the cloth during the wash cycle to prevent redeposition on the textile face. Mills operate these tanks under continuous flow to ensure that high volumes of product do not overwhelm the capacity for chemical filtration. If the chemical density falls below the threshold, the agitation fails to break the molecular bond of the wax.
Clean fabric shows a matte finish while improperly treated material retains a dull yellow cast that prevents dye penetration.
Environmental Impact
Disposal of the wastewater represents the primary cost and liability for the factory management during the production cycle. Regulations mandate that the effluent must reach neutral pH levels before discharge into external systems to protect local water tables. Large scale filtration units recover a portion of the cleaning fluid for reuse in future batches, which lowers the overall chemical footprint of the plant.
Proper management of the extraction process determines the final durability of the linen goods by preserving the natural strength of the flax fibre.
