Testing Method
Standardized testing methods determine the linear density of textile yarns by measuring the mass of a specific length of specimen. Adhering to the ISO 2060 yarn linear density protocol ensures that the yarn count of linen shipments is determined under controlled moisture conditions. This procedure uses a precision yarn reel to wind a skein of designated length from the production lot.
Moisture Conditioning
Flax fibers are highly hygroscopic and absorb varying moisture from the surrounding air. When measuring the ISO 2060 yarn linear density, the yarn package must be pre-conditioned in a standard testing atmosphere before being weighed. This step ensures that the resulting linen yarn count, expressed in tex or metric count, is highly accurate and comparable across different laboratories.
The laboratory technician records both the raw and conditioned weights to complete the evaluation.
Quality Certification
Buyers require guaranteed linen yarn counts to configure their weaving machines for specific fabric weights. If the ISO 2060 yarn linear density results deviate from the ordered specification, the batch cannot be shipped to the weaving mill. The final test certificate is attached to the shipping invoice as proof of compliance with the buyer’s procurement requirements.
This documentation protects the spinning mill from quality claims after the yarn has been woven into cloth. In addition, the test ensures that the warp and weft yarns behave consistently during the high-tension weft insertion of industrial rapier looms.
