Contractual Allowance
Commercial contracts for the trade of spun linen yarn establish a legal range of weight deviation to account for natural moisture fluctuations during transit. The yarn billing tolerance defines the acceptable percentage by which the delivered mass can vary from the invoiced mass. This term resides in the trade agreement stage and is documented on the contract specification sheets.
Commercial Deviation
Because linen yarn is highly sensitive to atmospheric humidity, a shipment can gain or lose weight during long sea voyages or warehouse storage. To handle these changes, yarn billing tolerance allows for a standard variation, typically limited to one or two percent of the total shipment weight. If the delivered weight falls within this tolerance, the buyer must pay the full invoice amount.
If the deviation exceeds the limit, the invoice is adjusted based on the actual dry fiber weight plus the standard regain allowance. This rule prevents continuous minor disputes over small weight changes caused by the weather.
Dispute Resolution
Applying the yarn billing tolerance protects both the spinning mill and the importer from financial loss due to atmospheric conditions. The agreed tolerance is stated in the initial purchase order and verified at the destination warehouse. This formal standard ensures smooth customs clearance and financial settlement.
