Loom Parameter
Loom parameter calculations establish the specific mechanical forces applied to the warp threads during the weaving process. Weaving mills measure the shedding warp tension to control the stress placed on yarn ends as they open to form the shed. This parameter is recorded on the loom setup card before weaving begins.
It ensures that the yarn does not stretch beyond its elastic limit during high speed cycles.
Dynamic Force
The mechanism involves a load cell or sensor mounted on the backrest of the loom to monitor warp tension continuously. During the shed opening, the tension peaks as the yarn is pulled up and down by the heald frames. In Chinese weaving mills, technicians adjust the timing of the shed opening to spread this peak force over a longer period.
This adjustment reduces the strain on the warp yarn to prevent breakages. It also ensures that the warp threads remain straight as they receive the inserted weft yarn to maintain uniform pick density across the roll. Operators use these readings to adjust the warp let off motion during weaving to match the calculated dynamic load.
Fabric Faults
Defects such as warp streaks or weft bars are often traced back to uneven tension settings across the width of the loom. When shedding warp tension is too low, the shed may fail to open fully, which causes the shuttle or gripper to catch the threads. This tension is monitored and logged in the daily loom inspection report to guarantee consistent fabric quality.
