Bale Identification
Physical marker labels attached to compressed bast fibre units provide traceability back to the mechanical extraction plant and agricultural harvesting lot. The scutching bale tag records the unique bale serial number, scutching mill registry code, harvest year, regional origin, and net tare weights of scutched flax fibre bundles. This document accompanies the pressed fibre unit from European or domestic scutching facilities through maritime transit to the spinning mill opening hall.
Data Recording
Operators attach weatherproof plastic or reinforced paper tags to the galvanized steel bale ties immediately upon bale discharge from the hydraulic press. Information fields include verified fibre grade classifications based on manual sensory assessment of softness, cleanliness, color, and tensile resistance. High-grade long-line flax bales carry distinct visual tag colors compared to short scutched tow bales.
Barcode or QR code identifiers on the tag link directly to the scutching facility digital database containing moisture readings and scutching line run logs.
Receiving Protocol
Warehouse personnel in spinning mills scan every scutching bale tag upon container unloading, matching physical bale data against shipping manifests and certificates of origin. Damaged or missing tags require immediate quarantining of the bale until physical batch testing can verify fibre provenance. The tag remains attached until the bale ties are cut on the opening room laydown floor.
