Traceability System
Supply tracking systems establish the continuous record of ownership and handling used to verify that organic textile fibers have not been mixed with conventional materials. This tracking mechanism, known as the organic flax chain of custody, covers every transfer of the flax from the certified farm through the scutching, spinning, and fabric manufacturing mills. Each handler must possess a valid certificate of compliance to participate in this supply chain.
This registry secures the integrity of the organic claim for the end consumer. The system is managed under international guidelines such as the Global Organic Textile Standard, which provides the technical foundation for certification audits.
Verification Process
Processors use distinct identification tags and dedicated production slots to handle the certified organic flax separately from standard flax. Under the organic flax chain of custody, every transaction requires a certified transaction certificate that matches the shipment weight and lot numbers. Auditors verify these files during annual site visits to ensure no uncertified fiber was introduced.
Commercial Compliance
Spinning mills must document the exact yield of organic yarn produced from a given input of organic flax fiber. Any unexplained increase in output suggests the addition of conventional fiber and results in the revocation of the mill’s organic status. This documentation prevents the blending of unauthorized materials.
