Mass Verification
Industrial scales installed at the entry point of a manufacturing facility measure the total weight of incoming delivery vehicles before and after unloading. The mill intake weighbridge establishes the raw weight of imported flax bales or chemical drums before they are accepted into the warehouse. Comparing this measurement against the supplier’s shipping manifest allows the mill to detect discrepancies in the shipped quantity immediately.
Moisture Allowance
Raw flax is highly hygroscopic, meaning its weight changes depending on the moisture content it absorbed during transit. Mill technicians weigh the delivery truck, unload the flax, and weigh the empty truck to determine the gross wet weight of the shipment. Samples are then taken from the bales to calculate the moisture regain, and the dry weight is compared to the billing weight.
This moisture adjustment prevents the mill from paying for water weight introduced by humid conditions during shipping or storage at the port of origin.
Inventory Logging
Receivers use the verified weight data to update the mill’s stock management records and approve supplier invoices. The registered weight is printed on an intake receipt that is matched with the customs clearance and quality testing reports. These linked records ensure that each batch of yarn can be traced back to a specific shipment of raw flax, maintaining transparency from the farm to the spun yarn.
