Takeup Regulation
Mechanical pulling force exerted on the newly formed cloth controls the spacing of the weft insertions. During fabric production, loom take up tension ensures that the fabric is drawn onto the cloth roller at a uniform rate. This tension keeps the fell of the cloth at a constant position.
Fabric Influence
Uneven fabric tension leads to direct variations in the pick density and creates thick or thin bars across the cloth. If the loom take up tension is too high, the fabric is stretched excessively and the warp yarns are subjected to high mechanical stress. If it is too low, the cloth will slacken and the beat-up action may cause warp breakage.
This delicate balance must be adjusted for every yarn count.
Tension Adjustment
Loom operators configure the mechanical gears or electronic regulators according to the fabric specification. High loom take up tension is maintained when producing dense linen fabrics to ensure that the weft yarn is packed tightly together. Technicians check the fabric tension using a hand-held tensiometer during the initial running metres of a new warp.
This measurement is recorded in the daily production log to ensure consistency between different shifts on the mill floor.
