Physical Separation
Sizing machines use polished metal bars to separate warp yarns after they emerge from the drying cylinders. The dry split rod divides the bonded sheet of linen yarn into individual ends before they are wound onto the beam. Without this separation, adjacent yarns remain glued together by the starch size, causing severe tension problems during loom operations.
Mechanical Action
Operation of these bars requires precise positioning in the dry split zone of the sizing machine. As the stiff, sized warp sheet moves forward, it meets a series of staggered rods that crack the size film between the yarns. This mechanical action must be gentle enough to avoid scraping the size off the yarn surface while ensuring complete separation of each individual linen yarn from its neighbors.
Inadequate separation force results in tearing the fiber bodies, which damages the yarn and produces clinging during loom operations.
Processing Benefit
Sizing efficiency relies on the smooth passage of the linen warp through this zone. It minimizes yarn hairiness and protects the strength of the starch coating. Loom mills report fewer warp breaks when the warp ends are cleanly divided by the dry split rod, leading to higher loom efficiency and fewer fabric defects.
