Inspection Instrument
Handheld devices designed to assess water content in flax bundles via dielectric properties provide immediate readings during the early stages of material intake. The capacitive moisture meter estimates moisture percentages by detecting changes in the electrical field generated between its sensors when they press against the fibre. These readings allow mill staff to verify arrivals against contract limits without waiting for oven tests.
The scope of use covers initial screening where high speed testing is required to manage high volume delivery schedules.
Measuring Mechanism
Accuracy hinges on the proximity between the fibre and the electrical plates within the instrument. A handheld capacitive moisture meter senses how water within the flax stem acts as a capacitor inside the measured circuit. The presence of dense stalks or loosely packed fibre alters the path of the current, making physical contact uniformity vital for a stable readout.
Environmental humidity around the tool can also influence the background sensor signal during outdoor inspections.
Technical Boundary
Calibration values remain valid only when the specific density of the flax aligns with the settings stored in the device memory. While the capacitive moisture meter offers quick data, it cannot replace the gravimetric drying method for final commercial settlements or formal laboratory audits. Deep core measurements in high density bales stay outside the effective range of common surface probes.
Consistent verification against established secondary samples maintains the required narrow tolerance for production.
