Wear Measurement
Mechanical testing of yarn determines the durability of the thread under simulated friction against an abrasive surface. In linen yarn evaluation, Zweigle abrasion represents the resistance of the spun flax yarn to surface wear and pilling. This property is measured using a standardized instrument that rubs the yarn against a rotating abrasive drum until it breaks.
The number of cycles required to cause failure is recorded as the final result.
Fibre Resistance
Yarn hairiness and twist levels are the main factors that influence the wear resistance of the linen thread. High Zweigle abrasion numbers indicate a compact yarn structure with well-bound fibres that can withstand the action of the loom. Low numbers suggest the yarn is too hairy and may cause issues during the high-speed weaving process.
Product Specification
Downstream performance on high-speed weaving machines depends on the durability of the warp yarn. The weaving mill includes the Zweigle abrasion value in its technical specifications to ensure that incoming yarn will not fail under the friction of the harness and reed. If the yarn does not meet the specified number of cycles, it is rejected or sent for additional sizing.
The test results are recorded on the laboratory analysis sheet and filed with the shipment’s shipping documents to ensure full traceability and compliance with the buyer’s quality standards.
