Spinning Efficiency
Proportion of finished high-grade yarn obtained from a given quantity of hackled line flax measures the efficiency of the wet spinning process. A higher wet-spun yarn yield indicates that the raw flax was of high quality and that the drafting rollers were correctly adjusted. This metric is expressed as a percentage and is monitored closely by mill managers.
Material Loss
Fine flax fibers are prone to breakage and loss in the warm water bath if the drafting tension is not carefully controlled. This loss reduces the wet-spun yarn yield and increases the amount of spinning waste that must be reprocessed or sold as low-grade material. The yield is also affected by the water quality and the speed of the spindle.
Quality Classification
Accurate tracking of the yield across different flax batches allows the mill to evaluate the economic value of its raw fiber suppliers. If a specific shipment of flax produces a low wet-spun yarn yield, the mill may renegotiate the contract price or adjust its sourcing strategy for the next season. The calculation of this yield incorporates both the weight of the spun yarn and the weight of the waste generated.
This systematic analysis helps the mill maintain its profitability while supplying high-quality yarn to the weaving department. Sustainable margins depend on keeping this ratio within the target limits.
