Chemical Softening
Chemical treatment stages dissolve the natural binding agents that hold flax fiber bundles together before drawing and spinning. The process of wet spinning pectin extraction utilizes hot water and mild alkaline solutions to soften the pectin and gum coatings. This treatment allows the individual flax fibers to slide past each other during the drawing phase.
Temperature Control
Heated water baths on the spinning frames are maintained at seventy degrees Celsius to optimize the extraction process. When executing the wet spinning pectin extraction, the exposure time must be tightly controlled to prevent weakening the cellulosic core of the fibers. Too much extraction results in a weak sliver that breaks on the spinning frame.
This step is recorded on the process control chart.
Spinning Performance
Yarn uniformity and strength depend directly on the level of pectin removal from the fiber bundles. When the wet spinning pectin extraction is performed correctly, the yarn exhibits a smoother surface and higher lustre. The mill’s lab tests the yarn for residual pectin before winding the finished packages.
This test ensures that the linen satisfies the buyer’s criteria for fine, premium-grade weaving yarns. A high level of control during this wet stage prevents lint accumulation during downstream knitting and weaving operations.
