Drying Instrument
Laboratory heating chambers dry textile samples to a constant weight by circulating hot air to remove all moisture. A ventilated drying oven is used in spinning and textile mills to find the dry mass of flax fibres and yarns. It maintains a constant temperature of one hundred and five degrees Celsius to ensure that all water is evaporated without burning the cellulose.
The dry weight obtained from this process is used in all standard moisture calculations.
Test Execution
Moisture tests must follow strict standards to produce reliable results for quality control. The operator places a measured skein of flax yarn inside the ventilated drying oven and weighs it at regular intervals until the weight stops changing. This constant weight represents the absolute dry mass of the sample.
To ensure accuracy, the oven must have a forced-air circulation system that continually sweeps away the humid air released by the drying flax, preventing any moisture from condensing back onto the yarn.
Laboratory Control
Accurate moisture measurements are required to calculate the commercial yield of every spin lot. The ventilated drying oven must be calibrated regularly to ensure that the temperature does not rise too high and damage the natural fibres. This instrument remains a standard tool for the mill’s testing laboratory.
