Fibre Strength
Fibre strength indicators measure the force required to break a single strand of yarn relative to its linear density. Spinning laboratories determine the single end tensile breaking tenacity of linen yarn to predict how it will behave during high speed weaving. This metric is expressed in centinewtons per tex to allow direct comparison between yarns of different thicknesses.
The result is documented on the laboratory test certificate before yarn delivery.
Calculation Protocol
The measurement requires testing a single strand on a tensile tester until it breaks, recording both the force at break and the yarn thickness. Technicians in Chinese spinning mills perform fifty individual tests per yarn lot to calculate a reliable statistical mean. This protocol divides the breaking force by the yarn’s linear density to generate the tenacity value.
This calculation allows the mill to identify uneven spinning or weak zones in the yarn lot. It also provides the chemical finishing team with data to predict how bleaching will affect the final yarn strength.
Buyer Acceptance
Weaving mills use this metric to evaluate the suitability of yarn lots for warp preparation. When single end tensile breaking tenacity falls below the minimum limit specified in the purchase contract, the loom efficiency will drop due to frequent warp stops. Buyers use these values to decide whether to accept the shipment or initiate a claim against the spinner.
