Mass Measurement
Mechanical scales positioned at the processing line calculate the weight of straw and fiber to monitor extraction yields and mill throughput. The scutcher weighbridge provides the primary data point for determining the efficiency of the mechanical extraction process. It measures the mass of the incoming truckloads and the resulting bales of long fiber and tow.
Operational Function
Operators use these measurements to monitor the ratio of fiber recovered from the woody core of the flax plant. If the scutcher weighbridge shows a large drop in the fiber-to-straw ratio, the mill manager adjusts the settings of the breaking rollers or the scutching turbines. This equipment is often integrated into the mill’s digital management system to automate the tracking of inventory levels.
Accurate calibration of the scale is performed regularly using certified weights to prevent financial discrepancies during the purchasing of raw materials.
Efficiency Analysis
Frequent deviations in the recorded weights may indicate changes in the moisture content of the straw or inconsistencies in the harvesting method. Data from the scutcher weighbridge is essential for calculating the cost of production per ton of finished fiber. Persistent inaccuracies in these readings can lead to major errors in the mill’s financial reporting and raw material procurement strategies.
