Inspection Procedure
Systematic check of the loom settings and shed opening dimensions before active weaving begins ensures that warp threads are not subjected to damaging mechanical stress. This loom shed verification confirms that the clearance between top and bottom warp sheets is sufficient for the shuttle or rapier to pass cleanly. The results are signed off by the loom technician and recorded on the machine start-up sheet.
Technical Steps
Technicians measure the height of the harness frame lift and the tension of the warp threads at both open and closed positions. In linen weaving, the inextensible nature of flax fibers means that even a minor over-lift can snap the yarns, while a low lift causes the rapier to catch and damage the warp. The loom shed verification process adjustments are made to the eccentric cams and the let-off motion to balance the tension.
This step ensures that the loom runs without yarn breaks and produces an even cloth.
Quality Assurance
Weaving trials are executed immediately after this check to confirm that the reed beats the weft yarn into the cloth without creating marks. If the fabric is free of irregularities, the loom is released for high-volume production. This verification reduces start-up errors and avoids yarn waste.
