Pretreatment Mass
Intermediate physical properties track the mass of woven cloth immediately after it leaves the loom and before any chemical treatment. The greige weight represents the raw state of the linen, containing natural waxes and any sizing agents applied to the warp. It provides a baseline for calculating the efficiency of the weaving process.
Mills use this figure to estimate the final yield.
Baseline Measurement
Technicians measure this value to monitor the consumption of yarn and the consistency of the loom settings. The greige weight is typically higher than the final weight of the scoured linen because the boiling process removes excess organic matter. Fluctuations at this stage indicate variations in yarn moisture or sizing pick up.
Records of these measurements help in troubleshooting production errors. Constant monitoring of these raw values ensures that the weaving process remains within the specified parameters for the current contract. Frequent reporting allows the management to detect issues before the fabric moves to the dyeing stage.
Yield Tracking
Establishing the difference between the starting mass and the final mass allows the mill to calculate the weight loss percentage. The greige weight is a primary data point for inventory management within the weaving shed. It remains a purely internal metric until the cloth enters the finishing plant.
