Structural Distortion
Geometric deviation of an overhead beam or support carriage from its design path under the weight of a moving load. High-speed shuttleless looms use overhead frames where gantry deflection can cause misalignments in the yarn guide rails. This physical bending is tracked on the mill’s daily maintenance sheet.
Guide Performance
Misalignment of the overhead guide rail alters the entry angle of the rapier into the yarn shed, leading to friction that damages fine flax fibers. Resulting abrasions weaken the warp threads, which increases the frequency of breaks and causes uneven fabric texture. Mechanical adjustments to correct the rail angle must be performed before the shift begins to maintain the tension tolerances specified in the mill’s internal quality manual.
The dynamic changes are verified using mechanical dial indicators and recorded on the loom setup log.
Export Quality
Uneven thread tension during cloth formation produces streaks in the finished linen that are rejected during final inspection. Export batches must satisfy the strict uniformity criteria set by international linen buyers to avoid price penalties. Production logs must confirm that the support frame remains stable during continuous operation to ensure that the finished cloth meets the first-grade rating for export.
