Statistical Variability
The mathematical parameter that measures the variability and distribution of yarn tensile strength indicates the reliability and uniformity of a yarn lot. This Weibull failure modulus helps spinning mills to predict the likelihood of yarn failures at different tension levels on the loom. A higher modulus value shows that the yarn has a very narrow strength distribution, meaning its strength is highly consistent.
A lower value indicates a wider spread of strength, with many weak spots that can fail under tension.
Reliability Analysis
To calculate the Weibull failure modulus, the laboratory performs multiple tensile tests on a yarn lot and plots the results on a Weibull probability chart. This analysis is carried out by quality control technicians to evaluate the consistency of the spinning process. If the modulus is low, the mill must check for uneven fiber blending, spinning frame vibrations, or worn drawing rollers that could introduce periodic weak spots.
In Chinese mills, this parameter is logged in the monthly quality report to track the performance of the spinning machinery. This helps prevent weak yarns from reaching the loom room.
Loom Efficiency
A yarn lot with a high Weibull failure modulus performs better on high-speed looms because it has fewer unexpected breakages. This increases the overall loom room productivity and reduces the rate of cloth defects. It is a highly valued metric for premium export-grade linen yarns.
