Commodity Valuation
Commercial pricing of short-staple linen yarn depends on the availability of scutching by-products and the demand from coarse textile manufacturers. The structure of tow yarn pricing is characterized by lower rates than those of line yarn due to the shorter fibre length and higher impurity content of the raw material. Because tow yarn is spun from the shorter fibres separated during scutching and hackling, it provides a cost-effective alternative for coarser fabrics.
The pricing is usually quoted per kilogram and varies according to yarn count and color. Finer tow yarns command higher prices because they require additional combing and chemical treatment to remove shive residues.
Production Influence
Spinners calculate their raw material costs by blending different proportions of local and imported tow to achieve the desired price point. The efficiency of the dry spinning process or the wet spinning of tow yarn also influences the final price. When cotton or polyester prices fall, mills often adjust their tow yarn prices to remain competitive in the blended apparel market.
Market Application
Industrial textiles and home furnishings represent the primary markets for these coarser yarns. Buyers from these sectors are highly sensitive to price fluctuations and often purchase in large bulk quantities to secure lower rates. This bulk demand helps spinning mills maintain high capacity utilization even during periods of low demand for fine line yarns.
