Width Calibration
Mechanical stretching of woven fabrics during continuous drying controls the final width and density of the finished textile. Adjusting the stenter width settings determines the distance between the clip or pin chains that hold the fabric edges as it passes through the drying oven. This control ensures that the cloth reaches the exact width required by the buyer’s specifications.
Machine Operation
Woven linen is fed into the stenter frame where it is gripped by pins or clips on both sides. The distance between these chains increases gradually along the length of the machine to stretch the damp cloth to its target dimension. This mechanical action is combined with heated air circulation to dry and set the fabric in its stretched state.
Modern machines use automated control systems to adjust the width settings dynamically based on real-time feedback from optical sensors.
Fabric Dimensionality
Improper configuration of these width parameters can lead to excessive shrinkage or distorted yarn structures in the finished linen. If the fabric is stretched too wide, the weft yarns are placed under high tension and will contract severely during the first washing. This makes correct width adjustment vital for maintaining the dimensional stability of the cloth.
