Capacity Measurement
Operational units of production calculated by multiplying the number of active spindles by the hours they are in operation measure the output capacity of a spinning mill. Tracking spindle-hours allows mill managers to calculate the total capacity utilization of their ring spinning frames. This metric is used to estimate yarn output over a specific shift or production cycle.
The total is affected by mechanical downtime and scheduled maintenance.
Efficiency Planning
Spinners use these values to compare the productivity of different spinning rooms. If the number of recorded spindle-hours is below the projected target, it indicates that the mill is experiencing high rates of yarn breakages or mechanical failures. Maintenance schedules must then be adjusted to address these issues.
This metric is also used to calculate the labour cost per kilogram of spun flax, allowing the mill to optimize its shifts and personnel allocations.
Output Forecast
Modern automated looms require a steady supply of yarn that can only be maintained by highly efficient spinning operations. Estimating future spindle-hours helps production planners schedule downstream weaving and finishing tasks. This forecast prevents the weaving looms from running out of yarn and ensures that export contracts are delivered on schedule.
