Traceability Documentation
Official verification documents confirm that a specific shipment of textile goods contains organic fibres and complies with the Global Organic Textile Standard. These GOTS transaction certificates trace the movement of organic linen from the certified spinning mill to the weaving or finishing plant. They are issued by authorized third-party certification bodies that audit each transaction in the chain of custody.
The certificate lists the organic status of the flax, the weight of the batch and the identities of both the seller and the buyer.
Verification Process
The transfer of organic linen between entities requires a new certificate for every individual commercial transaction to maintain the chain of custody. When a Chinese mill exports organic linen yarn to a European brand, the seller must apply to their certification body with the shipping invoice, packing list and the transaction certificates from the raw flax supplier. The certification body verifies that the input material balances with the output yarn before releasing the new document.
This process ensures that conventional flax cannot be blended into organic yarn during spinning or weaving.
Trade Certification
Importers check these certificates during customs clearance and quality audits to validate organic claims. A missing or invalid certificate invalidates the organic status of the entire batch, preventing the goods from being sold as organic linen. This documentation remains the primary defence against product mislabelling in global markets.
