Intake Protocol
Raw material evaluation requires extracting representative fiber cores from packed bundles of flax to determine moisture content and impurities before processing. Through bale sampling, mills obtain a statistical profile of the incoming raw fiber lot. This procedure governs the acceptance of fiber shipments.
Quality Assessment
Laboratory testing of the extracted specimens determines the spinability of the flax through analysis of the fiber length and cleanliness. Standardized tests measure the percentage of short fibers and shive debris, recording these findings in the raw material intake report. Buyers use this document to cross-reference the fiber grade declared by the supplier.
Correctly executed tests prevent spinning defects on the production floor. The mill’s lab technician measures tenacity and fiber length distribution to generate a quality report that verifies the lot meets the spinning requirements of the fine yarn line.
Financial Settlement
Commercial invoices for raw fiber are adjusted based on the deviation between the tested moisture level and the standard commercial regain rate. When bale sampling reveals that the shipment exceeds the contracted moisture limit of twelve percent, a financial deduction is applied to the final invoice. This process protects the purchasing mill from paying for excess water weight.
The resulting laboratory certificate establishes the final billable weight.
