Acceptance Boundary
Permissible variance limits define acceptable numerical deviations for physical yarn properties against target contract benchmarks. In commercial flax yarn procurement, yarn specification tolerances specify acceptable ranges for yarn linear density, twist multiplier, tensile strength and defect counts defined in supply contracts. These parameters govern raw material receiving inspection and buyer claim validation, terminating at the point where woven fabric construction begins.
Variance Evaluation
Buyer contracts establish nominal targets for yarn count, such as lea or metric count values, accompanied by plus or minus percentage tolerance limits. For instance, a contract for forty metric count flax yarn may specify a linear density tolerance of plus or minus three percent. Laboratory technicians test sample skeins from incoming yarn lots to measure actual linear density, twist turns per metre and breaking force.
If test results fall outside defined tolerance boundaries, the buying mill issues a formal claim for price discount or rejects the shipment entirely. Rigid tolerances prevent weaving difficulties, as unexpected yarn count variation causes uneven fabric weight, streaky appearance and erratic warp tension in high-speed looms.
Contract Threshold
Standard contract terms mandate laboratory re-testing by an independent accredited facility when buyer and seller test results conflict. Out-of-tolerance yarn shipments authorize buyers to cancel contracts without financial penalty.
