Verification Receipt
Official documents issued by a certified scale operator that record the gross, tare, and net weights of vehicles transporting raw materials are essential records for the transaction of flax fiber in bulk. These weighbridge tickets provide the primary evidence of the quantity of flax delivered from the retting fields to the spinning mill. They are signed by the scale operator and filed in the mill’s raw materials ledger.
Transaction Steps
Trucks loaded with baled flax are weighed upon arrival at the mill to establish the gross weight of the delivery. After unloading the fiber in the warehouse, the empty vehicle is weighed again to determine the tare weight. Subtracting the tare from the gross yields the net weight of the flax, which is printed on the weighbridge tickets along with the vehicle registration and the date.
This net weight is used to calculate the payments to farmers and to verify the quantities listed on the shipping invoices.
Quality Control
Discrepancies between the weight recorded at the farm and the mill weight are investigated to check for moisture loss or theft during transit. Flax fibers lose or gain weight depending on atmospheric humidity, so moisture testing is conducted alongside the weighing. This double-check ensures that the mill pays only for dry fiber weight.
