Auxiliary Formulation
Chemical finishing auxiliaries formulated from emulsified paraffin or synthetic ester waxes provide surface lubrication for coarse bast fiber yarns during mechanical processing. Application of a topical wax emulsion reduces dynamic friction coefficients between flax fibers and metal contact guides on winding and warping machinery. Chinese spinning mills apply these liquid dispersions via kiss-roll applicators during yarn rewinding to prevent fiber shedding and static accumulation.
The formulation acts strictly as a temporary physical surface coating and is removed during subsequent fabric scouring and scouring pre-treatments.
Lubrication Mechanism
Smooth paraffin micro-droplets deposit evenly across the spun yarn surface, forming a thin protective boundary film that glides over yarn guides. Applying topical wax emulsion at recommended dry pick-up levels between 0.5 and 1.5 percent minimizes fiber-to-metal abrasion without causing yarn slipping on winding drums. Inadequate wax pick-up leads to excessive fly generation and dust accumulation in weaving sheds, whereas excessive wax application causes gumming on loom reed wires and yarn tension discs.
Mill technicians monitor emulsion pickup ratios using solvent extraction testing on treated yarn samples.
Processing Performance
Reduced friction during high-speed warping operations decreases yarn break rates and maintains uniform beam density. Utilizing topical wax emulsion allows weaving mills to process dense linen warps at higher loom speeds without damaging delicate filament ends. Scouring bath formulations in finishing plants easily remove these emulsified waxes before dyeing.
