Loom Recovery
Modern looms are equipped with automated systems to recover from weft yarn breakages without leaving defects in the cloth. The pick finding sequence describes the automated reversal of the loom’s mechanism to locate and present the broken or incorrect pick for removal. This process is essential in flax processing where the linen weft yarns can snap under high tension.
It returns the loom to the exact shed opening where the break occurred.
Mechanical Step
When a weft break is detected by the optical sensor, the loom stops immediately and disengages the take up motion. The weft insertion system then executes the reversing cycle, rotating the harnesses backward while the reed and cloth remain stationary. This exposes the damaged yarn, which is then removed by the operator or by an automatic suction device.
Once the incorrect pick is cleared, the loom restarts at the correct timing to ensure that the next inserted pick sits flush against the fabric fell.
Fabric Integrity
Executing this sequence correctly avoids the formation of double picks or empty spaces in the linen. The fabric remains uniform across the entire length of the roll. This prevents costly trim losses at the inspection board.
