Structural Dynamics
Analytical and experimental method used to determine the natural frequencies, damping ratios and mode shapes of a mechanical system. Production mills apply modal analysis to the spinning frames and loom chassis to identify the mechanical frequencies that cause yarn defects. Resonance testing details are compiled in the machinery vibration logs.
Spindle Stability
Vibration in the drafting head alters the pressure of the rollers, leading to irregular drafting of flax fibers and uneven yarn diameter. Uncontrolled spindle vibration creates weak points in the linen yarn that fail during subsequent winding and warping operations. Technical departments monitor these resonant frequencies and adjust machine mounting feet to avoid matching the running speeds of the motors.
These interventions are noted on the spindle maintenance report to maintain thread uniformity.
Loom Integrity
Excessive vibration in the harness drive on Jacquard looms leads to pattern distortion and uneven thread spacing in the finished linen. Maintaining the stability of the comber board and harness frames allows the loom to run at higher speeds without causing warp thread wear. Export criteria require that the fabric structure remains consistent across the entire roll width, which is verified by checking the structural stiffness data on the loom’s modal inspection log before commencing a run.
