Structural Deviation
Insertion of two weft yarns into a single warp shed where the design specifies only one constitutes a primary weaving fault in linen production. This double pick error creates a visible band across the fabric that alters the local density. It is recorded during the visual inspection phase and noted on the fabric roll certificate.
Loom Mechanics
Warp sheds must open and close in synchronization with the shuttle or rapier insertion of each weft thread. Faulty sensor action or incorrect timer settings on the loom occasionally cause the double pick error by failing to trigger a loom stop after a weft break or feeder error. When the double pick error occurs, the reed beats two threads into a space designed for a single yarn.
This action creates a dense band across the linen cloth. The operator must manually reverse the loom, pick out the extra yarn, and restart the cycle, a correction that reduces overall loom efficiency and increases down-time.
Fabric Quality
Woven cloth with this defect suffers from non-uniform thickness. Mechanical testing shows that the localized density variation weakens the finishing process and reduces buyer acceptance. Low grades are assigned to the roll if multiple errors are found, leading to a downgrade or rejection of the shipment.
