Inventory Tracking
Material management systems in weaving mills track the flow and usage of yarn from raw inventory to finished fabric. The yarn consumption accounting tracks the quantity of yarn used for active warp ends, weft picks, selvedges, and process waste. This systematic tracking allows the mill to monitor material yields and calculate the exact cost of each production run.
It ensures accurate billing and material reconciliation.
Accounting Method
Calculating the total weight of yarn used in a fabric roll requires combining the theoretical yarn weight with the measured process waste. The yarn consumption accounting involves summing the weight of the warp beam, the weight of the weft yarn inserted into the cloth, the weight of the trimmed selvedges, and the waste tails. In linen mills, this process must also account for moisture regain, as flax fibres can absorb up to twelve percent of their weight in water under humid conditions.
The weight of the raw yarn must therefore be adjusted to a standard moisture level to ensure consistency. This calculation helps managers identify areas of excessive waste and adjust the loom settings accordingly.
Financial Analysis
Accurate material tracking is essential for maintaining profitability in the competitive linen market. By comparing the accounted yarn consumption with the initial yarn allocation, the mill can identify discrepancies caused by loom inefficiency or material theft. This data-driven approach supports better pricing strategies and improves overall operational efficiency.
It provides the financial foundation for sustainable mill management.
