Moisture Adjustment
Mathematical adjustments convert the observed linear density of yarn at a given humidity to its standard mass at the reference moisture regain of twelve percent. Applying the tex correction formula is necessary to resolve discrepancies between the measured weight of dry yarn lots and their commercial weight. This standard calculation is used during commercial transactions to ensure fair pricing and accurate material tracking.
Mathematical Model
The formula adjusts the measured weight based on the actual moisture content of the yarn, which is measured using a rapid moisture analyzer or by drying a sample to constant mass. This adjustment accounts for the fact that linen is highly hygroscopic and its weight varies significantly with the humidity of the storage environment. Spun yarn packages are sampled from the warehouse, tested for moisture, and their weight is adjusted to prevent under-reporting of yarn yield.
This calculation is recorded in the shipping documents of the mill.
Yield Calculation
Standardized weight measurements allow spinning mills to compare their production yields across different seasons and weather conditions. This consistency is necessary for maintaining cost control and verifying that drawing and spinning machines are calibrated correctly. The adjusted tex values are used for quality certificates.
