Preparation Equipment
Holding structures that support yarn packages and guide warp ends during the warping process are essential for preparing high-quality weaving beams. In linen preparation departments, a sectional warping creel holds the individual cones of flax yarn in a precise arrangement to supply the warping machine. This equipment ensures that each thread is pulled with uniform tension and remains separated from its neighbors.
Proper tension control at this stage prevents yarn tangles and tension variations in the woven fabric.
Mechanical Setup
Each cone holder on the frame is equipped with an individual tension disc or yarn guide that exerts a uniform braking force on the running yarn. During the warping stage of linen production, yarn from the sectional warping creel is drawn through a lease reed to form a section on the warping drum. The operator must check each tensioner to ensure that the yarn is running at the designated tension level, recording these settings in the warping logbook.
Since linen yarn can be abrasive, these tension discs are made of ceramic to resist wear and prevent yarn damage. This setup is essential for creating a perfect warping band that will later be transferred to the loom beam.
Beam Quality
Quality inspections at this stage grade the prepared warp beams according to yarn tension uniformity. If tension varies across the creel, the warp beam will have tight and loose ends that create weaving problems on the loom. The mill’s warp beam release ticket records the tension profile, ensuring that only beams within the mill’s strict standards proceed to the loom.
This process guarantees that the finished linen fabric meets the buyer’s acceptance criteria for uniform yarn distribution.
